POLICE halted the performance of Hip Hop artiste Foxy Brown on Saturday
night at the Colours XII concert staged at the Queen's Park Savannah, after
she repeatedly used obscene language during her performance.
To the dismay of officials the mostly youthful crowd followed her lead.
The concert was organised by UNAIDS, MTV and 96.1 and was intended to help
raise Aids awareness.
Mr Vegas started off the concert and pumped up the crowd with various styles.
Brown, one of the top billed performers for the night, started of mostly
showing the audience where her "hot spot" was, constantly clutching
her crotch and giving a middle finger to the sky.
But things took an even more obscene turn when she divided the crowd into
two sections and then invited the audience to sing with her to see which
side could chant "f.... that" louder.
The exuberant crowd responded and kept this up for approximately five minutes,
after which a senior police officer went onto the stage and asked Brown
to stop.
An obviously embarrassed Anthony Chow Lin On, of 96.1, came on and explained
to the audience that "the lady has been warned that we will not permit
that type of thing in Trinidad and the officers were just doing their job".
While officials were talking to Brown and her entourage backstage, a DJ
started playing music but the crowd was upset and started to chant "Foxy,
Foxy, Foxy". Some sections started to call for a refund.
In the end, Brown agreed to clean up her act and came back to give a verse
and a chorus and left the stage, telling the audience that she did not mean
any harm.
The evening took an upsurge after former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam
gave a short speech to the crowd about the importance of being aware of
Aids.
Spragga Benz did not disappoint the audience and, as the "ladies man",
he encourage guys to treat their women right. He also spoke about peace,
saying the Jamaican example showed that politicians could mash up a country
but that it was up to the people to put peace together.
Nas was a major disappointment as he failed to excite the crowd, many of
whom stared blank-faced. He had to resort to playing a few mixes from Notorious
BIG, Puff Daddy and Tupak, but ended with his present hit "Hate me
Now".
Shabba Ranks once again proved why he is such a success by finishing of
the show with past hits. Shabba also encouraged the crowd to get rid of
"batty riders" and this was met with approval.
Later the audience danced to DJ music.
