May 2001 News, Rumours and Random Thoughts

May 22, 2001

As you can no doubt tell, I'm too lazy to update, but I finally decided to now. At one point I lost my computer, and in the meantime I can't stop watching TV. I just got into the satellite "testing" business and I used to have two channels and went to like 600, so now my eyes are rectangle-shaped these days. But enough about me, let's get into this. First off thanks to everyone for holding it down on the board especially the DJ and INN executives. Big ups to PreciousStone for putting out those Too Stoosh lyrics, I didn't understand half of what was said but it's all good.

Oh Yeah Video Has Been Shot
Our insider Red brought up a full review of the Oh Yeah video, after he and the whole Ill Na Na crew spent a week in Jamaica. Apparently this is Foxy is giving us some "Hot-Spot" caliber eye candy this time around because she's looking hot in the sun, wet, with a waterfall around her. In another shot, someone (you can safely assume it's Spragga) sings the hook beside her while she's wearing a nice orange outfit leaning on a cottage-type Jamaican House, a pretty colourful scene. The next day they filmed a club scene where Foxy's wearing this custom-made top with her initials on it. Good description there as to her sweet dark skin and sexy legs, not to mention that new curly hairdo we all love. There's some reggae type dances going on by some hot honeys in one shot. The whole video was directed by Little X, who also did BK Anthem. Sounds great, everyone will eat up the exotic flava even though the Jamaican-wannabe fad isn't much of a new trend anymore.

Foxy (Not) On July XXL
We're not entirely sure if she made the cover because there's one out and Trina's on it, but supposedly she's in there. This news surprised me for one because XXL is supposedly an underground type magazine that's an alternative to all the mainstream commercial crap (even though Foxy doesn't fall into that category anymore but was there for a while). Putting Foxy on the cover is the equivalent of selling out unless they're dedicating an all out bashfest to her name. Let's hope that's not the case, nevermind the fact that she made their "Negro Please" section twice in a row. Who knows, who cares.

Random Thought: If y'all talk about promotion ONE MORE TIME...
I swear I will rip out your heart and feed it to you. Promotion fuss is what got the album pushed back in the first place. Sure, Foxy needs to sell, fill her pockets, feed her family, etc. But if you are not on Foxy's marketting team stop whining and let Def Jam do their thing. Oh, by the way... VOTE VOTE VOTE!!! WE WANT FOXY on the COUNTDOWN! I want to see BK Anthem and haven't seen it yet because it's not getting any airplay so VOTE already!!! Go to bet.com and do your thing on 106 and Park or Whatever. I know, I'm a walking hypocrite, so sue me. I'm just playin' everyone, we all really need to help Foxy do well this time around, but if the album gets pushed back to the fall I know I'll be on trial for murder one.

BET Black Soul Cinema Special
Foxy hasn't really been "hosting" the show because she and Snoop only talk for three seconds in the beginning and end, but hey, it's still good stuff. I actually watched the Foxy Brown movie and had to turn it off cuz my senior folks were over and you know how old-timers are sensitve about sex scenes. It was hot though. Can't wait to see Blacula on Friday and Scream Blacula Scream on Saturday Night. Just about Blaxploitation in general, gotta say I never knew it was this good. Even though old white guys are the puppetteers, it's refreshing to see black people in powerful, positive roles, instead of servants, butlers, and bumbling baffoons.

Foxy Video Collection
There's one available at select hip hop music and apparel outlets, it has some really old stuff you may not have seen, including clips of her battling some dude with a 94 Freestyle. Look for it.

FOX FIVE
Is, as far as we know, the name of a posse-cut group or compilation album coming out eventually off of Ill Na Na. Not sure what the "five" are or what they represent, but production is held by Gav and Red, who are also arteests themselves in the thing as far as I know and understand.

And For the LAST TIME...
Chyna Whyte is not that Spanish-looking dudette in the Bia Bia video. Someone's going to need a name change unless y'all at Def Jam want to go through with what happened to The Firm on Columbia. Remember the album that we weren't sure whether or not to get it from the compilation or regular alphabetized section @ HMV? Oh wait, it was neither. It was officially titled "Nas, AZ, Cormega and Foxy Brown present The Firm, The Album" blah blah blah.

I'm really sorry if there's an annoyingly negative and cynical tone on this news update, I'm just in a bad mood I guess and y'all don't deserve that but whatever... Don't hate me...peace.

THIS JUST IN- Dagnabbit... Broken Silence has been pushed back to July 17. It might not make a difference to some people because the ORIGINAL original date according to DEF JAM was July 19. I'll have to fix the countdown clock on the entrance page. I can't wait that long yo, so I'm buying the bootleg, sorry Foxy. I'll cop your album when it drops too, but I can't be teased with all those clips and not have something to listen to soon... I guess you can't rush perfection.

Foxy Brown teams up with Alison Hinds
They're putting out a song exclusive to the islands for real Trini's... Jamaica this, Jamaica that, Foxy ain't Jamaican. Bout time we got some Soca Flava. Alison Hinds is from Square One, and the song will probably be hitting file sharing proggies soon. Alison Hinds isn't filtered on Napster so one of these days maybe you can get the song from there. The song is called "get on" or something and was recorded last January.

The Letter, Candy, Gangsta Boogie, and more now at official site
The Official Site, foxybrown.net on Def Jam, has been somewhat updated with audio snippitz from the new album. I won't spoil it for y'all, check it yourself, or don't.... It took me like two minutes of my mouse hovering over the links wondering whether I should spoil myself or not, and resistance was futile. I now have heard 10 songs from Broken Silence.

Four Minute Sean John Ad
Oops I mean the BK Anthem video, lol. It aired a few days ago. Everyone is in phat P Diddy gear, thuggin it. The video looks cool, it's very simple and low budget, no cheesy effects or anything, but I know for a fact that outdoor video shoots are very expensive. In the video, while Foxy is rapping she's sitting next to her brother on some steps outside some house chillin, and the LCD video camcorder thing says REC with a red light in the top right corner. Then, in between it switches to shots of the hood, depicting people, thugs and what not, and it says "PLAY" in the corner (makes sense). There are some cameos by AZ, Noreaga and some other dude who looks like DJ Clue. Maybe it's him... and another shot has Foxy rapping in the street, and just posing there with some homeboyz. The video was directed by Little X, he has a great style that looks familiar, but anyway see it for yourself sometime or download a low quality version here, thanks to Naas.

BET Black Cinema Special
So far Foxy has hosted one show, and I think it was the one from ODB's "Got Your Money" video, Black Ceasar? maybe something else but I believe that was it. She and Snoop definitely hit it off pretty good, they both looked and acted like they were straight from the seventies. I don't remember waht she was wearing... but I think they're gonna reair it if they didn't already... sorry for the lack of details I don't get BET yet... but stay tuned to see her host five more classics..

The Source Article
I know everyone bought the Source already, but I guess I should sum up some stuff. No one knows who Foxy is with right now. A lot of people think she's back with Kurupt because she won't shut up about him in the article and keeps talking about how the whole world stops for her when he calls. Yeah, she actually said something like that. I mean come on, the guy disses you, sleeps with someone else and there Foxy is showing off his name tattooed on her back. Ricky this, Ricky that... get over him and get over here girl. Shoot.
Then again, she confirms that she's been gettin' it on with Spragga Benz, as if the new songs didn't hint at that already.

Also, in the article she flat out disses Jay-Z and Nas talking about how they're selfish for not helping her out since Chyna Doll.. bad move Inga, you don't want beef with the two best rappers. She said she won't get into trouble, she'd rather just keep her distance, which is good.

As far as Lil' Kim is concerned, there's some talk about Bang Bang, and Foxy talks about how that one verse destroyed her and stirred so much controversy only after putting up with all sorts of not-so-subliminal disses from Kim and her fam months before.

She talks a bit about her near death experiences overdosing on painkillers and having to jump out of her Range Rover as it flips down the road at 40 miles per hour, not too far from the BK Bridge.

MTV appearance was on Saturday
Big ups to Marcus for looking out on that. They only showed her first on the MTV Countdown special and she didn't have all that much to say besides the fact that she doesn't care how much the album sold and stuff. Foxy mentionned how sad she was when Biggie died. On the Def Jam uncensored special, she spoke about how she likes Lauryn Hill and she's a beautiful dark-skinned woman. They showed her hugging Russell Simmons and talking about how proud she is to be on Def Jam Entertainment.

Foxy on TRL
Last week they had some kind of Fashion segment on the show and were showing clips and soundbytes of Foxy and Kim talking about designer clothes. Foxy said she's rapped about Prada since age 16 to give women a sense of the finer things in life. Thanks to Lamont for the news.

Bootlegs have already popped up. Just make sure your ass buys the abum and you're forgiven.
